One of the benefits of joining a group is the events they put on. Not all Second Life (TM) (R) groups put on events… some groups offer great experiences / adventures (for example - Jaca’s Joint offers pinball, pool, water sports, a cool motorcycle path, etc.). All groups have something special to offer.

Tonight a group I belong to (Slaytona Beach Bikers and Babes) had a “Best In Black” event at their club. (I also have a store on their land and they have incredible motorcycle races.) When I logged in I received a notice about it. At first it sounded like the “Best in Black towel” event. But since I didn’t have a towel, I just changed my hair and clothes to be the best “black” I could be. Here are some pics from the event:

Friday night and I did get in. I actually managed to download and new vest I created. I decided to create a pair of shorts to go with it so thought I best log off while I was working in Photoshop.

When I was done I tried to log back and in and nada… It did not give anything at all, no ability to logout, no “can’t log in”. So I went to the blog. Well the blog took a very long time to load and by the time I got there all comments were filled in (150 allowed). Here is what they said:

Some folks are really upset, and I can certainly understand, and you can see it in their comments. I am a paying member and upset too! But other comments were quite funny and I thought I would pass some alone for a bit of interest on a “no log in” Friday night, at least for now, to cheer some of you.

On April 19th I was telling you, and showing photos of what my neighbor was doing to block visual access from their land to mine. As I said we tried to reason with this person but to no avail.

The last time we went to our land we found pieces of wood stuck on the object (mountain) that they put up. When asked to take it down we were told that the light under our flags was shinning through the mountain and this was to prevent it. Here’s how it looked.

Now you tell me, does this look nice to you? Of course not.

So, bottom line, there was nothing we could do. Anyone want to buy land beside a not so nice neighbor - yes I took my store down and it is now for sale.

I do think that there should be some sort of abuse rules because to me that was abuse.

Caught you with that heading I bet But honestly, if you look at the their blog it seems that post after post says something is ‘down’. Then it says it is “resolved” but then an update and it is ‘down’ again.

This ‘up’ and ‘down’ issue is hurting businesses, land sales, events and so much more.

Perhaps some creative scripters out there could invent a viagra(tm) type solution so they can keep it up -:)

My neighbor has land with multiple stores on it. My neighbor does not want folks who come to their land to see my store.

The picture below looks nice doesn’t it. My store (building in progress) is to the right of the ‘mountain’. Well don’t be fooled. That is not a mountain. It’s an object with a texture of a mountain that the person on the land beside me put up to block my store. Can you see the flags, that was what we did so people could see where our store was located. This person had trees there before but you could see my store through the trees so up went the mountain. The person on the other land did not want people to see where I was located and made it very clear of that fact. As you can see they doing everything to accomplish this.

The image below is on my neighbor’s land where you can see the other side of the ‘mountain’ and just a tiny bit of my flag, which is way lower than the mountain.

The other aspect of this is that the area around the ‘mountain object’ you cannot see, so if someone tries to fly to my store, or someone tries to fly from my store to theirs this they are blocked. This is what you see when you highlight invisible:

First, I do not sell the same or even similar items to this person. So, why would someone go to this extreme to try and block folks from seeing my store - you got me. If I had an ugly structure with flashing lights (for example) I might understand, but our store structure is brick and stain glass. This person states I am trying to steal traffic. Ummmm, don’t people buy land and build stores around each other to share traffic and bring in different traffic?

So what can be done. Well I could keep building higher, but then my neighbor would only build higher. Try to reason with the person? Tried that and was told I was obsessive and obnoxious (nice neighbor huh).

We have three other stores on different parcels of land we own and not one person has been nasty enough to do something like this.

To my knowledge there are no policies to address disputes when it comes to blocking views. I do think there should be height restrictions so it gives people equal chance for people to see stores that are around anyone’s land. But then again that would restrict people’s ability to build what they want and that would not be a good thing.

So what can you do when something like this happens? Hope that people will see you from the air, or from the water, and if you can afford it, advertise. Other than that I am at a loss

I was recently contacted by this company so I could have a view of their new search engine. This search engine is for vitual worlds. You can search through a browser or you can search inworld.

Here is what the search looks like (the Google ads at the side I removed):

I quite like how the images come up with a brief description and links.

If you have your parcel make to “show” you will be listed, if you don’t they have information to get listed without using that feature.

This is my first test of the search engine but from what I can see it looks great. Regular web searh engines should have a look at this layout.

Second Life(R) has notified members of a new brand / trademark law. If we did not abide by it we could not get back into “the land”. So here is the scoop.

So gang, I have now less than 90 days to find a new domain name, start a new blog, and probably will loose all of you as readers since even a redirect will be a breach.

I will of course keep you updated, but I have to say I am not to happy since I have had this domain name and hosting for over a year and not only do I have to stop this, but I have to pay for the changes.

Hopefully someone will look at this and change some policies. If not, hope you all will stay with my new blog. I will keep you posted

I had a number of issues in Second Life(tm) this weekend. The first issue I discovered was that some of my clothing that I had created did not show me as the creator. These are items that both the texture and piece of clothing was done in Photoshop and imported so I knew they were definately mine. Seems that at some point in SL(tm) being down, or rolling restarts that these got messed up. Needless to say I spent hours checking every item I had created and the stores I have them in. I have to say that Linden Lab(tm) support was terrific. Part of the resolution was to move the land to another server.

The other issue I had was when I went in on Easter Monday the land was gone. It wasn’t showing offline, it was simply gone.

Luckily my partner, BillyBoy, and I have land right beside it (BuyZone where we have built a mall) so I could go right beside to see what was happening. Click here if you would like to visit. Anyways, it turns out that the restart was stalled so it was fixed quickly once I reported it. That was good news since it covers my store, meeting area and Jaca’s Joint - a big chunk!!

We have rolling restarts tonight and I was done for a bit but all seems to be well again (whew).
